It's harvest time at Mellasat Vineyards!
It was not long ago that we were chatting about Veraison and we are now proud to announce that we have started harvesting. The first grapes were harvested on 13th January 2017, same date as 2016. Even though the season started early, it has slowed down due to the cooler temperatures that we experienced during the latter part of January.
The first grapes to come in was Pinotage for our White Pinotage, the Chardonnay followed and during the fourth week we harvested the Viognier. All the grapes that were processed, looked healthy and the grapes were full of flavour. Healthy bunches meant that the wine being made will have a lot of varietal flavour, depth and complexity. The yields on these varietals are also higher than the previous year, which means more White Pinotage and Viognier - just two of the favourites!
If anyone is interested in visiting us to see what the winemaking team is up to, please give us a call. We are not shy to share our harvest with you. We've had a lot of interest from visitors recently, all keen to see what happens!.
