Enjoy a Gourmet Picnic at Mellasat
The days are still nice and warm - perfect for a gourmet picnic! Book a picnic or a cheese platter and pair it with one of our great summer wines!
Our picnic basket consists of four different locally produced cheeses, charcuterie, home-made chutney, olives, salads, tapenade, crackers, Ciabatta bread, fresh fruit salad and home-made chocolate brownies- all for only R279.00 for two people. Our cheese and charcuterie platter for two is R169.00 for two people. Both offers include a glass of wine per person. Wine tasting is excluded.
The picnic season is coming to an end and is still available until 30 April 2018. Book now! This is an ideal opportunity to bring family and friends to laze on our lawns and experience Mellasat hospitality.

2018 Harvest report
What a great harvest despite the drought! The yields were down in general, except for our Tempranillo and Viognier, but the grapes were healthy and we made some stunning wines this year.
Another dry winter during 2017 with cool evening and night temperatures meant that the grapes ripened slower than the previous years.
The first grapes to come in were Pinotage for the first batch of our White Pinotage on the 16th January 2018. This batch came in the same week as last year, however we harvested this early to make a base wine for a MCC.
It was followed by Chardonnay which, this year, were healthy although the yields were down by 22% - so we decided to make just a few barrels of Chardonnay in addition to our Seraphic blend. However, we are very excited about our Viognier; the yields were higher than previous years which means there will be more Viognier for our Viognier lovers. The Chenin Blanc ripened slowly again and it also developed into beautiful, healthy bunches with great depth of flavour.
It was definitely a winemaker's year and we checked our grapes regularly in the vineyards to ensure that they were harvested at optimum ripeness. Even though we had hot days during January and February, the night temperatures stayed low which meant that the grapes ripened more slowly and this led to more complexity. All our fermentations ran smoothly and, so far, we are happy with all the wines we've made.
The colour on all the red varietals was intense with good structure. The last red variety pressed was the Cabernet Sauvignon on the 22nd March 2018. The red wines are now going through malolactic fermentation. So far, so good!
With regard to previous vintages we racked our 2016 Tempranillo from barrel to tank last week. We'll be bottling it soon and this wine will be ready for winter - hopefully a wet and cold one!
I Love PE Wine show - Port Elizabeth
This show has a different format. There will be three, 4 hours sessions, over 2 days. The venue is the newly renovated Tramways Building, Baakens Valley, Port Elizabeth.
Apart from wine tasting, there will be relaxed, live music, and local restaurants.
Come and fill your cellar with our newly released 2017 White Pinotage, 2016 Viognier and 2015 Tempranillo. We will also have our 2013 Chardonnay, and our very popular red blend the 2015 Revelation available.
